Stick N' Poke are a four piece hard rock band hailing from Wicklow who formed in 2024. The young rockers have released four singles to date, starting with the stomping and bluesy, Expensive Eye. The band consists of Tadhg Conway on rhythm guitar/vocals, Sam Burke on lead guitar/backing vocals, Darragh Emerson on bass and Zak Hastie on drums.
Expensive Eye is a great introduction to the band as it's a fun rock song with a catchy guitar hook, some smooth vocals and a killer solo. It's a great rock tune for guitar lovers and a style that suits them well. Having listened to all of their released catalogue, I feel like the band are still finding their style, such is the variety on display. That's all good as we like bands to mix it up but I'm guessing they may eventually settle on a more fine tuned direction.
The latest single from Stick N' Poke is called Shovel and it's an absolute beast of a song. It snarls from the outset, featuring a heavier and more polished sound than we've yet heard from the band. It blends grunge and metal and really is a wonderful production. The vocals are menacing and the guitar work is on another level. This song really crunches. It's an absolute stomper and I love the aggressiveness that continues all the way through to the end. The solo will melt your face off and there are some really clever change ups in the song that are all executed really well. It's brilliantly composed and I really like it.
