Dublin rock band, Speakers, formed in 2020 and is made up of Conor Kinsella on vocals/guitar, Alex Cregan on vocals/bass, Ellen Beamish on guitar and Joe Clarke on drums. They are affectionately known as Dublin's Smiliest Band. This feels like a fitting title as they are a very fun and easy listen to band and they come across as fun people to be around. Their influences are Blink 182, My Chemical Romance, The Strokes and Paramore. Their own style isn't a million miles away from those guitar based bands. Their 2024 single, Cooler Talk, earned the band a place alongside Ireland’s most promising upcoming artists on Radio Nova’s shortlist for the Hot Press, ‘A New Local Hero’ award. In my opinion, they have much better songs than that such as the fantastic Nothing to You, which has a brilliant guitar hook in the chorus and Crawl which has a great pop punk energy.
Speakers have just released their new single, Fight Like A Man, an alternative rock track about wrestling with toxic masculinity that challenges the idea of what it means to be a ‘man.’ It's a well composed and polished track with some nice transitions into each of the varying sections which range from punk and riff based sections to more pop rock. There's even a (not too bad) drum solo in there which shows their youthful energy and willingness to mix things up. Speakers are a band that seem to gel well together and I look forward to following their journey.
