PINS N NEEDLES are a punk band from Wexford. They claim to be "a shite band that makes shite music." I claim that this will be a shite write up and feature on them. I don't know much more about them as there isn't a lot of detail available on who exactly is in the band but it's quite possibly a solo production project. I couldn't be arsed contacting them to ask as I don't think they'd care to share. What I do know is this: PINS N NEEDLES are not shite. They're amazing. In fact, it's great to have a punk band who are so raw, edgy, rebellious, potential riot starters, politically mindful and all those punk classics, yet behind it all, there's a very talented song writer and producer. Every PINS N NEEDLES song that I've been able to listen to is put together masterfully. Sure, there's a total tongue in cheek element and the lyrics are not going to change your life (they might if you're a burger devil or don't know what the green button is for) but the total package is one of organic raw energy and pure entertainment and what the fuck is wrong with that?
GARDA GARDA is a stand out song by PINS N NEEDLES. Jesus, it's heavy as hell. The drum intro takes me back to New Rose by The Damned but once it kicks in, it's a fucking room wrecking stomper. Behind Your Eyes features a nice vocal melody over a standard punk background before a masterful change near the end that displays the song writing potential of this band. PINS N NEEDLES even have a very short Christmas song that will come once a year.
AIRFRYER is the new single by PINS N NEEDLES and it features Wexford death metal project Sickened. It's another fun song that has some really addictive vocal harmonies and clever composition. I can imagine a crowd of sweaty punks n' rockers singing along to this one. Even though it's a song that is actually about an air fryer, it's awesome and is just so impressively creative and inventive.
So anyway, go listen to PINS N NEEDLES and make up your own mind. Listen to it all and I bet you'll be hooked like I am. I'm off now for a McPlant.
