Pants On Fire are an indie rock band from Dublin who released their debut album, Cargo, in 2023. Featuring a new line up of Ollie West on vocals/guitar, Finn Neilan on guitar/vocals, Kaelig O'Dhonnabhain on bass and Jeff Miller on drums, Pants On Fire are a band that I've been listening to a lot over the past couple of weeks. I really love their laid back melodic style. The music can be separated into its elements with each member of the band creating their own unique contribution to the songs. It all blends really well together and I think it's the combination of vocals that give this band a really nice unique sound. The songs feel organic and natural and not overthought or overproduced. They're the perfect lazy Sunday band or the backing track for a cool party. They rock and sooth at the same time, which is a rare achievement. I haven't seen them live but I believe they put on a good show.
Cargo is one of the best albums I've listened to recently. It's really strong the whole way through and I find it hard to nail down my favourite track but at the moment, it's probably Face Down, which interestingly starts off low and muffled like an old garage band demo before cranking up into full bloom. The opening track Animals, along with Medicine, Jonny Cool and Sink are stand out tracks.
Pants On Fire have just released a new single with the revised line up called, Vodka Shampoo. It has a similar style to the songs on Cargo and really reminds me of The Strokes. It features an upbeat tempo and individual journeys that each of the musicians go on, that take different routes but all lead to the same place. This is what I love about Pants On Fire and why they're a band you can listen to over and over. You'll notice something different every time. I'd definitely wash myself in Vodka Shampoo. I'd drink that shit and I'll continue to drink in Pants On Fire.
