Martina and the Moons | Poetic Melodies

Writer: Chuck Chuck

Martina and the Moons are a talented four piece, Dublin based band with a very diverse but well flowing sound. The band consists of, Martina Moon on vocals, Sarah Morgan on guitar, Aisling Stephens McGowan on bass and Zahira Ellis on drums. They note a variety of influences from Paul Simon to Elastica and recently, they have released three strong singles.

Their debut single, Emigrate, features a wonderful vocal melody and delivery that Chrissie Hynde would be proud to have written and performed. The music is easy listening, refreshing and catchy while the production is well paced and composed. I love this song so much and the delicate lead guitar compliments the vocals so well. The follow up single, Omnibus Boners, leans more towards their 90's influences with a bass led verse and more distorted chorus.

It was with the release of the next single, Dixon Avenue, that Martina and the Moons may have released a single that they'll do well to top. I'm no expert on instruments but I thinks it's some sort of muted trombone or trumpet that leads the song in a jazzy manner. This is a simply wonderful song from start to finish. I've been listening to it lately as I go for walks and I've noticed a bounce in my step and a feeling of happiness surge through my body. It's a special feeling that you get when a song just hits the spot that needed hitting. Martina Moon has captured something special here with a combination of lyrics and melody that bring us on a poetic and delightful journey.

As I was researching this write up (yes, I actually do a little bit so feck off... ), I discovered that in July of 2023, Martina Moon completed a 30 day song writing challenge where she came up with a new song or idea every day. It's pretty impressive and something that really showcases her song writing talent. It's absolutely fucking amazing! Check out Day 10 - Film and Day 13 - Food. Well done, Martina. The Mosaic album is a masterpiece.

Go check this band out. Support them. Talk about them. Listen to them and enjoy them!
