Divides Unfold are a hard and heavy rock band from Belfast who feature Mark Penny on vocals/guitar, Alex Ilic on guitar, Gianluca Lo Dico on bass and Adam Wilson on drums. They formed in 2015 and have since released an exciting EP called Motion in 2018 and the fantastic debut album, Distain in 2023. I find them to be a very polished and headline ready act who will appeal to all fans of hard rock and metal. Their sound is quite diverse, at times featuring crunching and punishing rhythm sections that would impress Slipknot fans yet it's always overlaid with more entwined melodic and emotional interplay between the lead guitar and vocals. It's a nice mix and there are some prog rock elements to their writing style.
The lead vocals from Mark Penny are the stand out here, in both melody and delivery. He's got a brilliant range of styles reminding me of a mix between Myles Kennedy and Serj Tankian. The Distain album is all killer from the epic opening track, Fire of the Sun to 'Til Death, which closes out the album and happens to be one of my favourite songs by Divides Unfold. (The chorus is fucking awesome). Check out the track, Far Beyond, which is my overall favourite at the moment.
Divides Unfold are another stomping Irish band and one I'll be following from now on. Go listen, now!
