Arcane Montane are a Dublin based hard rock/metal band that combine elements from the 70's to 90's, creating their own groovy, riff based, head stomping sound. The three piece consisting of members, Ray Fahy, Steve Brown and Rory Byrne, were formed in 2022 and have since released their debut EP in 2023, Fork in the Road, followed by a brand new single in 2024 called, Spinning Wheel.
Arcane Montane instantly reminded me of Black Sabbath with their dark crunching riffs and doom filled drum and bass that leave some space for the imagination, which is a lost art. The chilling vocals combine the raw emotion of Ozzy with the range and power of Dio. All that combined makes for a pretty awesome sounding band, right?
The Fork in the Road EP starts off with My Folly, a song characterised by a pounding bass line that Geezer Butler would be proud of. The vocals on this song are more modern and a little grungy, almost like Soundgarden. The song features two guitar solos, the second of which is really great sounding. The Vestiges is another standout song for me on this EP, which comes steeped in 70's metal. The EP is solid throughout and well worth checking out.
As mentioned earlier, Arcane Montane have recently relased a new single. Spinning Wheel is another combination of hard n' heavy riffs with a dark veil draped over it. The chorus is nicely crafted and features two great vocal melodies before returning us to the blistering riffs we love. This band know what they want to sound like and they certainly seem to have mastered their craft.
Go check out Arcane Montane and start head banging, now!
