Apogean Tide is the solo project of Sam Ellis (guitarist/composer from the Irish band llenkus). There are only two singles available at present, but both are very impressive and will tick many boxes for fans of progressive metal. Apogean Tide are inspired by artists such as Deftones, Meshuggah, Cloudkicker and Tesseract and have plans to release a single every couple of months.
The latest release, Revolution is a Fallacy, is the one that caught my attention. It has a ferocious start and masterful pace changes throughout the track, blending experimental sections with more traditional metal outbursts. The selection of guitar tones really stood out to me and there are some hauntingly beautiful parts in this song. But don't get me wrong, this song is a brain cruncher. I'm really looking forward to getting my ears pummeled and soothed by more from this band, and will be following them with interest.
